Bison Field Hockey Returns Home Victorious

Bison field hockey brought back a 2-0 win to Lewisburg on Sunday, Sept. 12, after their away match up against Lock Haven. Mary Kate Stefanowicz ’22 scored both goals for the Bison, with assists from Maddie Rehak ’23 and Erin Zielinski ’22.

A key contributor to the Bison defense was Mia Fields ’24 who felt the game went “really well”. “[The team] was connecting nicely up the field, which helped to create lots of offensive opportunities,” Fields said. These opportunities allowed the Bison to dominate early on in the game, with a quarter-high of four shots coming in the first quarter of play.

It was in the 19th minute of play that the Bison got on the board, thanks to Stefanowicz, after receiving a cross from Rehak on their seventh corner of the game. The Bison converted another penalty corner in the 43rd minute, this time on a receiving pass from Zielinski to Stefanowicz, who struck from the top of the circle. Stefanowicz leads the Bison in goals (three) and points ( seven) for the season.

Not only did the Orange and Blue win out against Lock Haven offensively, but they played an equally fortuitous defense, leading to the shutout. Lock Haven only managed three shots on goal against the Bison’s 12. Veteran goalkeeper Clara McCormick’s ’23 earned her first shutout of the season with a virtuosic performance on the field. In addition to being a key defender, Grace McEvoy ’22 tied Stefanowicz with four shots on goal.

This result improves the Bison record to 3-2 on the season. The Orange and Blue look to continue their two-game winning streak with a pair of home games next weekend. They return to Lewisburg on Saturday, Sept. 18, opening up Patriot League play against Holy Cross and again on Sunday, Sept. 19 against Sacred Heart. Face-off is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday, both on Graham Field.
