The Bison women’s golf team traveled to Rehoboth Beach Country Club to take part in the Lady Blue Hen Invitational this past weekend. In the final round of the fall season they placed 12th overall, and had a team score of 321.

On the first day of the invitational, Viveka Kurup ’25 shot the Bison’s best score of the day, 78. After 36 holes, the Bison fell to 12th place, right behind Fairleigh Dickinson.

“Our team didn’t play as well as we had hoped but the conditions were super tough. The wind was blowing at like 20/30 mph and that made the course about 10 times harder especially when the wind was blowing towards certain hazards on the course,” Kurup said.

The Bison were led by Sahana Paravantavida ’23 who shot a 2-over-par 74 in the final round of the invitational. Paravantavida started off the second day with a par-birdie, which was then followed by two more par-birdies and three straight bogeys. For the third time in her career, she shot a 74, along with four other players at the invitational. Out of the 72 players present at the invitational, Paravantavida was tied for third best performance of the day.

Other contributors to the Bison’s successful finish include Tara Thomas ’25 (80), Sun Woo Jeon ’22 (83), Kurup (84), Kelsey Yi ’24 (88) and Tatum Mckelvey ’23, who shot an 80 as an individual.

The Bison finished the final round of the invitational with their best score of the weekend. Despite not getting the finish they expected, Kurup said, “It was a super fun experience and as much as I wish the conditions were a little easier I think we collectively learned a lot about our game through playing in that environment.”

The 12th place finish for the Blue and Orange marks the end of their fall season. They will resume play next year, in Feb. 2022.
