Bison battle Terriers to a stalemate

The Bison and Boston University Terriers competed in a thriller this past Saturday. The match ended in a 2-2 draw. Bucknell is now 4-1-2 in Patriot League play (7-6-3 overall) after its second tie of the week.

The Bison controlled the first half, outshooting the Terriers 11-2. Abby Gearheart ’23 found the back of the net in the 25th minute for the first goal of the game. Kenar Gelman  ’24 one-timed a left-footed pass down the left sideline, playing Teresa Deda ’25 into acres of space. Deda sent in a low cross to Gearhart, who flashed across the edge of the 6-yard box and redirected the ball across the line.

With just over 4 minutes into the second half, the Terriers scored to tie the game up. Jenna Hall ’24 made a good save to deny the Terriers in the 70th minute. Soon after Deda won the ball back in the center of the park, reversed field and found Gearhart ahead. Gearhart took two touches and let it fly from outside the box, finding the top left corner for her second of the game and fifth of the season.

Boston University answered, the last goal coming with 2:31 left in regulation, to secure a 2-2 draw and maintain its two-point lead atop the standings.

Deda now stands alone in second place on Bucknell’s single-season assist chart. She is only the second Patriot League player in the last 15 years to record double-digit assists in a season.

Gearheart has high hopes for the last regular season games, as she said “I thought the team in general played really well against Boston even in the crazy weather conditions. It gives us a lot of motivation going forward into these next two games because when we play our game we can dominate.”

The Bison finish up Patriot League regular season play with two away games. This Friday at Army and then Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Lehigh.
