On Saturday Nov. 6 the Bison men and women’s swimming and diving team traveled to Annapolis, Md. to compete in the Navy quad meet. The meet featured American University, Lafayette College and host Navy. Both the men and women beat Lafayette (226.5-71.5 men, 235-64 women) and American (242-56 men, 229-68 women). However, both came up short to host the Navy (119-170 men, 134-157 women). The women’s team has only met three losses since the 2019-2020 season, all to Navy.

The Bison women’s team was led by Abby Doss ’24, Naomi Douek ’23, Maddie Hartigan ’22, Skye Sunderhauf ’25 and Sabrina Vumbacco ’23, who all won an individual event. Doss had a time of 2:20.05 in her 200 breaststroke event, 10th in school history. In relays, Alexandra Ritorto ’23, Kayla Lichtner ’24, Sophia Donati ’23 and Hartigan won the 200 freestyle relay.

The men’s team’s great performance was a result of contributions from individual victories from Will Cadwallader ’22, Chris Fabian ’24, John Gehrig ’24, Leo Kuyl ’23, Liam Pitt ‘22 and Sam Sweeney ’22. Gehrig and Chris Kopac ’25 both made top 10 times in program history, Gehrig in the 200 butterfly (1:51.23) and Kopac in the 1,000 freestyle (9:33.96).

Despite the loss, the Bison had an impressive performance against Navy. For the women’s side, Doss outshined three Navy swimmers in the 200 breaststroke and Sunderhauf managed to place first in the 200 IM, her first for her collegiate swim career. On the men’s side, in Kuyl’s victory in the 50 freestyle, he outperformed four Navy swimmers, coming in first by .15 of a second.

Both teams now hold onto a record of 5-1 and 4-1 in Patriot League play. The Orange and Blue look to keep improving their record as they host the Bucknell Invitation Friday Nov. 19 – Nov. 21. The prelims will begin at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
