Cross Country Runs the Show

Women’s

This past Friday the University women’s cross country team competed in the NCAA Mid Atlantic Regional Championships in Bethlehem, PA placing 14th out of the 27 schools competing.

The Orange and Blue totaled 363 points bringing them to right behind La Salle and three spots ahead of Patriot League competitor Lehigh. Out of all the Patriot League competition, Navy finished highest at seventh overall.

Leading the Bison, Ashlyn Ramos ’22 finished tenth overall out of 193 competitors. She was the highest placed Patriot League Runner following her runner-up honors at the Patriot League Championship on Oct. 31.“I think it was a really good ending to the season for both of our teams and a nice confidence boost for some. It might be my best cross country race ever and I hope I can keep the momentum and improve on last year’s NCAA finish” Ramos said. Ramos also managed to qualify for the NCAA Championships by virtue of an at-large bid. This is the second time Ramos has qualified, a University record. 

Senior Emily Deschler ’22 followed up her top 30 finish in the Patriot League Championships by placing 68th. Lauren Trapani ’25 had a great Regional Championships debut by finishing 72nd. Ally Clarke ’24 (104th) and Nora Bennett ’22 (109th) were the other Bison to compete in the race. 

Men’s

The Bison men’s cross country team placed 10th out of the 26 schools competing on Friday at the 2021 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships. The Orange and Blue went into the meet ranked 12th and finished two spots ahead of that in 10th. Two Bison finished in the top 50 out of the 174 total competitors.

The Bison scored 282 points, finishing two spots behind Patriot League Champion Navy and two spots ahead of meet host Lehigh. Samuel Whittaker ’23 was the highest-placing runner out of the Patriot league leading the Bison with a 32nd overall finish (31:36.8). “We were able to end our season with our heads up high after finishing top 10 in the region. Felt great to be able to get payback on Lehigh and we are right on the heels of Navy. This was our best team performance by far this season and we have set ourselves up perfectly for the coming indoor track season,” Whittaker said.

Michael Donnelly ’24 finished just outside of the top 40 at 42nd and senior Brendan O’Toole closed out the fall finishing 51st. Fellow seniors Owen Chase (75th) and Ryan Miele (83rd) finished out the Bison in the top 100.
