The Bison men’s tennis team traveled to Michigan State this past weekend to face both Michigan State and Toledo in a series of challenging matches. Despite losing the overall sets, the Orange and Blue recorded a number of outstanding individual performances.

Michael Owen ’23 and Tim Zelikovsky ’24 secured singles victories against Toledo. Owen went 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 to fight back for his singles win. Similarly, Zelikovsky came back after losing the first set and tallied another singles win.

Later in the day, Owen was also able to secure a doubles victory against an unbeaten Michigan State team alongside partner Nick Mueller ’23. Mueller is expected to be extremely impactful for the Bison this Spring, coming off an excellent fall season. Mueller posted an 8-1-1 record in his fall singles matches, seven of those wins coming consecutively. He also went 7-4 in dual matches, making him the Orange and Blue’s top doubles player in the fall as well.

Owen earned Patriot League Men’s Tennis Player of the Week honors for his strong performances against both Michigan State and Toledo this past weekend. Owen’s outstanding individual performance in defeating Toledo’s Adam Kovac was one of the Bison’s two points on the day. Owen is a junior from Folkestone, England, and is expected to continue posting strong performances as the Bison head into league play.

The Orange and Blue are back in action this coming Sunday, Feb. 6 against Drexel University in Philadelphia.
