This week, the Bison women’s golf team traveled to Florida to participate in the Lady Bison Bay Point Classic, hosted by Lipscomb University. The event took place on Monday, Feb. 7 and Tuesday, Feb. 8, with the Orange and the Blue being the only team from the Northeast.

Tara Thomas ’25 and Kelsey Yi ’24 led the Bison on the first day, each posting 83s. The team started off with a total of 349, falling a fair amount behind Lipscomb and Georgia State, who both led the day with team totals of 310. USC, Jacksonville and Jacksonville State stood above the Bison as well. The second round of the day was halted due to darkness.

The second day was better for the team. They finished with a 334, a notable improvement from the first day. Thomas finished again with the team-best at a score of 81, and totaled 248 over 54 holes.

Sahana Paravantavida ’23 scored an 82 and Morgan Sohosky ’23 scored an 86, both improving their scores from the first day. Yi also scored an 85 for the Bison.

USC Update won the tournament with a total over the two days of 916, triumphing over Jacksonville State who scored a 922.

“I would say, the tournament was a good opportunity to play outside on a tough course after only being able to practice indoors. It definitely helped us see what we need to work on, to get ready for spring break and improve our scores,” Thomas said.

In five weeks the Bison will travel to Boulder City, Nev. to play in the Jackrabbit Invitational on March 14 and 15, giving the team a lot of time to prepare for their next competition.
