Women’s Lacrosse Secures First Patriot League Victory

The Bison women’s lacrosse team had an exciting Patriot League victory this past Saturday, March 26 as they defeated the Lafayette Leopards 16-9 on Graham Field. The Bison gained the edge over their opponent early in the match and maintained momentum throughout to seal the victory. The Bison strengthened their record to 4-5 on the season and 1-1 in Patriot League play.

The Orange and Blue came out fired up, scoring 13 of their 16 goals in the first 26 minutes of play. The Leopards could not keep up with the Bison attack, only putting up four goals in the first half. Entering the third quarter, the Orange and Blue faced some offensive challenges, unable to convert on any of their opportunities. The Leopards took advantage of this, scoring five goals of their own and narrowing the Bison lead 13-9. With only one quarter left to play, the Bison knew they needed to secure their victory, and they did just that. In a span of two-and-a-half minutes, the Bison netted three more goals and kept the Leopards scoreless. The Bison walked away with a 16-9 victory, along with their first Patriot League win of the season.

With such a strong result comes many notable performances, especially from rookies Allie Boyce ’25 and Colleen Kazanjian ’25. Boyce set a new career high, scoring five goals and six points on the day, while Kazanjian made 10 saves in her first collegiate victory. Emma Cashwell ’22 netted four goals of her own, followed by Taylor Kopan ’24 with three and Katie Wendell ’22 with two.

When speaking with Boyce about the game, she said “everyone was really hyped up going into the game and determined to get [their] first Patriot League win!” She added that the team needs “to keep this momentum going as they face Colgate. It is a huge game, but [she] is confident that with the team’s performance this weekend and these next few practices, the team will have a great win on Wednesday night.”

The Bison will return to Graham Field for a mid-week match-up against Colgate on Wednesday March 30 at 5 p.m., followed by an away game at Lehigh on Saturday April 2, in a 12 p.m. face-off.
