The Black Knights edged out the Bison

On Saturday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium at the Pascucci Family Athletics Complex, the Army West Point scored three goals in the final four minutes to secure a 10-9 men’s lacrosse victory. The Black Knights provided an intense match against the Bison (7-3, 1-3 PL).

Rick O’Halloran ’25 had a career-best 16-save performance while Dutch Furlong ’24 and Alston Tarry ’22 had a four-goal outing. The game was notably fast and physical.

The Black Knights raced out to an early 4-1 lead. The Bison responded in the second quarter on a 5-0 run to lead the Orange and Blue to a 6-4 advantage into intermission. Furlong completed his hat trick during this half. The lead was not long lasting as the Black Knights scored three of its goals to take a 7-6 lead during the third quarter. The Bison came out strong in the final quarter. They regained their advantage with a 3-0 run which saw Tarry strike twice. 

Other noticeable performances were Harry Wellford ’22 and Cam Doolan ’25 who both enjoyed a multi-point match. On the other side of the field, Travis Talarico ’22 and Danny Striano ’23 were key pieces to the Bison defense. Talarico recovered three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Striano was the cause for a game-high of three turnovers and collected two ground balls. O’Halloran made 16 saves, 11 in the first half. 

The game was back and forth, however the Black Knights handed the Bison its first home loss of the 2022 season. 

Tarry spoke on the tough game. “Army is a very good team and we fought hard and played them tough. It was obviously a tough ending that nobody wanted at all but we showed toughness throughout the whole game. We’re going to build on this game and move forward and are excited for this weekend’s game against Lehigh,” Tarry said. 

Entering the game, the Orange and Blue were 4-0 at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The Bison are looking forward to their next game against current No. 20 Lehigh on Sunday, April 10 for a 1 p.m. game.
