Strong weekend for women’s rowing

The Bison women’s rowing squad put together a strong performance at their home opener on the Susquehanna River. The Varsity Eight headed the performance, winning both of their races against Boston College and George Washington. 

The Orange and Blue completed their first race in 6:59.81, a seven-point-five second lead against their George Washington opposition. The Bison also earned a decisive victory in their second race with a time of 7:31.69, 26 seconds ahead of Boston College. The V8 team was made up of the Bucknellian‘s own Juliette Gaggini ’24, Erin Sullivan ’22, Maddie Wickers ’23, Caroline Brandt ’23, Natalie Kreusch ’22, Kona Glenn ’25, Hayden Groves ’25, Kate Meerscheidt ’22 and Elizabeth Berlinger ’23. 

The 2V8 also had an impressive race with a time of 7.25.93, however Boston College was able to edge them by just two seconds. The members of the 2V8 team include Ollie McDonald ’25, Georgia Lambrakis ’23, Chloe Segal ’23, Amanda Pennett ’24, Alina Kelly ’25, Christina DeMola ’23, Caroline Keating ’22, Jess Volcheck ’22 and Annabelle Kaeli ’24. 

Keating spoke on the team’s performance this weekend. “As a team we had an exciting race that definitely pushed our abilities! We had a lot of fun and are learning with every experience. Each race and practice that we do brings us closer to our goals and becoming the fastest that we can be!” she said. 

The Orange and Blue are set to face a group of Ivy League teams in Princeton, Harvard, Cornell and Yale this coming Saturday in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
