The Orange and Blue Tennis Team started off the weekend strong going 3-1 in their first round of singles at West Point. Whitney King ’25 and Abby Platt ’26 saw victory in both of their matches, advancing to the A Flight quarterfinals after the first day.

This pair defeated UMass 6-2 and then Marist 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals, competing against Syracuse on Saturday.

Platt and Tyne Miller ’24 won their singles matches on Friday in the B Flight. Platt beat Colgate 6-4, 6-4. Miller beat Sacred Heart 6-2, 6-4 to claim victory.

Mirra Manolov ’26 also was victorious, defeating Lehigh 6-1, 6-2 in the D Singles Flight. Madi Sebulsky ’24 and Kate Novak ’24 competed in the E Singles Flight, and they both received byes going into the round of 16.

On Saturday, Sebulsky won twice in the E Singles Flight, advancing to the semifinals. Anna Lajos ’25 had 2 victories in the A Singles consolation draw.

Despite efforts, Miller lost in her singles match on Saturday while competing in the B Flight. Novak was also beaten, losing her singles match and not being able to advance.

Miller spoke to The Bucknellian on the weekend.

“It was another great weekend for the team,” she said. “It was our first time traveling this year and we already are making such great memories and bonding. We played some teams that we haven’t seen before and had some awesome results. We are excited to go to Loyola this upcoming weekend for our last fall tournament.”

Lajos advanced after her consolation wins, beating Fordham 8-4 and Villanova 8-1. Lajos is set to play Fairfield in the semifinals on Sunday.

Sebulsky made it to the E Singles Semifinals, losing to Fairfield 7-6 (10-8), 6-4. The Fairfield competitor went on to win the E Singles Flight. Lajos also fell to Fairfield, the score being 8-6, in the A Singles consolation semifinals.

In the A Doubles Flight, King and Platt made it to the quarterfinals, but ultimately lost to Syracuse 6-2.

The Bison showed they are a force to be reckoned with. Even though the Bison eventually fell, there can only be one winner for each Flight, so it was a good start to travel-play.

The Orange and Blue Women’s Tennis Team is back on the courts Friday through Sunday at the Loyola Invitational.
