Bucknell Men’s Soccer battles with American University

Bucknell men’s soccer went head to head with American University this past weekend.

The Bison started off strong this match, taking the lead by the fourteenth minute of the game. Waldemar Kattrup ’25 received a throw-in ball that he deflected to Mo Tall ’23. Tall found Cade McGrath ’26 on a break away to the net. McGrath dodged the goalie and shot on a wide open net. McGrath scored his first career goal in the match.

Though this was a strong start for the Bison, the American University Eagles came back to score the equalizer just before halftime. In the second half the Bison held off American University with high pressure, but the Eagles managed to score again in the seventy-fourth minute, off of a back side goal coming from a throw-in down the right side. The Bison created many scoring opportunities in the final 10 minutes of the match, but could not get a finishing touch on goal.

American led in shooting throughout the game, 13–7, while the Bison led in corner kicks, three to one.

Eddie “Dudi” Perez-Pelaez ’23 spoke about the game.

“The team had one of those games that have come to define the start of our season,” Perez-Pelaez said. “We control most, if not all, aspects of the game but are unable to put the game away definitively, and it’s something we end up paying for sooner or later in the match. It’s extremely frustrating to lose games when we do because we are playing very well and we clearly dominate the opposition, but we seem to beat ourselves rather than the other team beating us.”

The Bison will host Lafayette this Saturday, Oct. 1, at Emmitt Varsity Soccer Field at 6 p.m. during Homecoming Weekend. You can watch the game remotely on ESPN+ and stream the live statistics on the Bucknell men’s soccer website.
