Bison men’s water polo battled the No. 18 team Fordham in a MAWPC matchup on Saturday Oct. 29.

The Bison got on the board first with a score by Andu Vlasceanu ’23 at the 5:21 mark of the first quarter. Later, the team found themselves in a 8-2 deficit in the third quarter, and they nearly managed a comeback trailing by one point (11-10) with 4:26 remaining in the game.

In the fourth, the Bison pulled within one goal three times. In the final minutes, both the Rams and the Bison landed two more goals in the back of the net–one from sophomore Shay Gillearn ’25. Vlasceanu scored three goals throughout the game while Hasan Mogultay ’25, Gillearn, and Jack Lewis ’23 each scored multiple goals.

“We had a lot of bright moments later in the game leading to the tight final score,” Colby Paine ’23 said. “Coming back from a rough 2nd quarter was a challenge, but the end result makes us excited to get another chance going into the playoffs. The top of the league is all super close this year which will definitely make for an interesting ending.”

The Bison will travel to Navy on Saturday before hosting Wagner and Mount St. Mary’s next Sunday.
