Bison Field Hockey season comes to an end

The Bison Field Hockey team closed out its 2022 season this past week.

On Nov. 3, the Orange and Blue faced the Boston University Terriers for the second time in less than a week, this time for the spot in the Patriot League Championship.

The Bison fought until the end, but a second-half goal by the Terriers sent BU onto the finals.

The Bison were feeling confident entering the match, after giving the Terriers much trouble just days earlier. The Orange and Blue had a share of shots in the first half.

One of their best chances came in the second quarter from Reanne Burgess ’24, who carried the ball into the circle off a broken penalty corner and took a strong shot, forcing the Terrier’s goalie to make a big save. The game remained tied at 0-0 entering halftime.

Just like the last time the Bison faced the Terriers, it was the second half that ultimately determined the game. The Orange and Blue came out fired up, as Mackenzie Kile ’23 had a quality shot earlier in the third quarter that went just wide of the goal.

On the other side of the pitch, Kira Leclercq ’26 recorded three defensive saves, keeping the Bison in the game heading into the fourth quarter. With just under fourteen minutes left in the game, the Terriers found the back of the net, leading 1-0.

The Bison were unable to find the equalizer in the final minutes, closing out their 2022 season.

“This season was filled with highs and lows but we made a lot of progress as a team, which is something to be proud of,” Burgess said. “Each game we held our own and gave it everything we had. We learned to work with and for each other. We fought in every competition we played. I hope this culture continues in spring training and next fall where we have unfinished business to take care of.”

There is a lot to be proud of from this Bison team. The Bison finished the season with a 5-13 overall and 3-3 Patriot League record. They made the conference tournament for the fifteenth consecutive time and twenty-fourth overall, ranking the highest in the league.
