Darren Miller ’23 and Nick Delp ’24 were the leaders for the Orange and Blue wrestling squad this weekend — both earning the team’s only wins against nationally-ranked Oklahoma State.

Miller competed in the 141-pound weight class, beating the tenth-ranked wrestler in the nation. Delp was competing at the 157-pound weight class, picking up a decisive win over his opponent.

Kurt Phipps ’24 battled in his match, wrestling the No. 2 ranked wrestler in the entire country, Daton Fix. Fix is a three-time runner up at nationals, competing as a redshirt senior this year. Phipps only lost in a 4-1, while Fix improved to 74-4 in his career.

Oklahoma State took a 9-0 lead, until Miller beat Carter Young in the 141 pound class. Miller went on the offense, coming out aggressive towards Young. Miller earned a takedown only 15 seconds into the match, while Young came back late in the match to make it 3-2. Miller’s ending riding time gave him the 4-2 victory.

Delp had a takedown 1:27 into the match, leading 4-2 before finishing it off with a four-point maneuver. Delp also had a lot of riding time in his match, winning in a 9-3 decision.

Oklahoma State won the rest of the matches of the day, but Logan Deacetis 25 battled very hard against No. 15 ranked Travis Wittlake. Deacetis had a takedown right as the match started, but Wittlake ended up taking a 5-4 lead at the end of the first period. With 15 seconds remaining, the score was tied 8-8.

Deacetis ended up losing the match 11-9, with Wittlake scoring some late points.

The Orange and Blue Wrestling team will continue their 2022-2023 wrestling campaign at the Navy Classic in Annapolis, Md. next Saturday Nov. 19.
