Bison Football celebrates a senior day victory

The Bison Football team closed out their 2022 season with their largest-margin victory of the year.

The Bison welcomed the Marist Red Foxes to Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium. Prior to kickoff, the Orange and Blue honored their eleven seniors, each of whom played an impactful role on the team. The Bison then celebrated the day with a 24-13 victory, sealing the season off with a win.

The Bison had all of the momentum entering the game, coming off of a thrilling overtime victory over Georgetown just one week prior. This, however, was quickly met by the Red Fox attack, which managed to lead 7-0 less than four minutes into the game.

The Bison were able to respond at the end of the first quarter with a field goal, narrowing the score 7-3 in favor of the Red Foxes heading into the second quarter.

Just before halftime, the Red Foxes scored another touchdown off of six rushed passes which came from a Bison turnover at their 46-yard line. The extra point was blocked by Aneesh Vyas ’25, ending the half at 13-3 in favor of Marist.

The Orange and Blue knew the second half would be critical if they were to come back and win. The Bison defense was stout in the second half, limiting Marist to only 48 yards the remainder of the game.

In their second possession of the third quarter, the Bison offense converted a touchdown on a pass from quarterback Nick Semptimphelter ’24 to Rushawn Baker ’25.

The Orange and Blue scored another touchdown on its opening drive of the fourth quarter, giving them their first lead of the day, 17-13.

The Bison were not settling, however, as they scored one final touchdown with less than three minutes to play. The final score was 24-13 in favor of the Bison.
