Men’s Basketball picks up nationally-televised win after two losses

Hugh Straine, Staff Writer

Bucknell men’s basketball picked up a huge 73-51 nationally-televised win at home versus American University on Monday night, following losses at Navy and versus Colgate.

The inability to take care of the basketball on offense was what decided the game for Bucknell in their two losses earlier in the week, as they had 14 turnovers against Navy and 18 against Colgate.

Andre Screen ’24 was the scoring leader in both those games with 14 against Navy and 10 against Colgate.

Against the Raiders and Midshipmen, Jack Forrest ’24 combined for 20 points on 8-21 shooting and 2-10 from three point range. Against American on Monday night, Forrest went for 25 points on 10-16 shooting and 5-7 from outside the arc.

Bucknell has appeared as a new team on offense since Forrest came back from injury a few weeks ago, and it is easy to see the new realm it adds to their offensive game plan with his ability to catch and shoot in transition so well at times.

The defense was strong all week, as it has been for the entire conference play season for Bucknell. Over this three game stretch, Bucknell held its opponents to 46.2 percent shooting from the field.

“It was incredible having such a big crowd in Sojka,” Rice said. “It definitely carried over into how we played during the game. We fed off the crowd’s energy which allowed us to kind of dominate the game from start to finish. We really appreciate everyone who came out and need that same turnout next Saturday for senior day.”

Next, the Bison will face conference rivals Boston University and Lehigh on Saturday Feb. 18 and Wednesday Feb. 22 respectively.
