Bison Women’s Water Polo traveled to Erie, Pa. this past weekend to compete in the Curtis Robinette Memorial Tournament. The Orange and Blue faced Iona on Saturday, Feb. 18 followed by La Salle and St. Francis College Brooklyn on Sunday, Feb. 19. The Bison finished the weekend 1-2.

The Orange and Blue started the weekend strong against Iona College. The Bison led for the majority of the match, with the Gaels tying it up with just 44 seconds left. However, the Bison persevered with the game winning goal and earned the 16-15 victory.

The Bison returned on Sunday to face off against La Salle. The Orange and Blue were first to get on the board off of an early Bella Moynihan ’23 goal. La Salle was quick to respond with two goals of their own, grabbing the early 2-1. Play continued back and forth, with La Salle narrowly leading 5-4 into halftime. It was the high-scoring second half that proved to be the deciding factor, as La Salle strengthened their lead and never conceded an eventual 13-11 victory.

The Orange and Blue’s final match of the weekend came against St. Francis Brooklyn. The Bison immediately took charge, leading the attack 3-2 in the first quarter. However, the Terriers took charge in the second, grabbing the 7-6 lead into the half. St. Francis extended their lead to 13-10 in the third quarter. The Bison were able to narrow the Terrier lead within two, however, could not do enough to come back, facing an 14-16 defeat.

“The team is looking forward to facing Iona and Villanova again and hopefully widening the goal margin,” Megan LaCroix ’23 said. “We will also go up against one of our conference rivals in the coming weeks, St. Francis (Pa.), and plan on redeeming ourselves after losing to them in the Bucknell Invite.”

The Bison remain on the road next weekend, as they travel to Princeton, N.J. for four games over a three-day span.

The Orange and Blue will begin with a rematch against Iona on Friday, Feb. 24, followed by one match on Saturday, Feb. 25 against Siena College. The Bison will close out the weekend on Sunday, Feb. 26 with their first match against LIU and second match against Villanova.
