Bison Baseball traveled to Louisville, Kentucky this past weekend to compete against the Louisville Cardinals, a team who’s currently ranked top five. Their first two games resulted in a loss of 7-1 and 11-2, respectively.

Grant Voytovich ’24 and Sean Keys ’25 were the front-runners for the Bison, as they both scored their first home runs of the season in the third game, leaving a testing finish for the Cardinals closer. The closer was able to escape the ninth-inning which resulted in a weekend sweep.

Louisville has been the preseason favorite in the ACC, making them a tough opponent and one the Bison will be able to build from.

Bucknell had a lead in the top of the first with the two-out rally. As they had two outs with nobody on, Tyler Dunn ’25 was able to score a double into the left field corner, while Billy Kender ’25 beat an infield hit and Keys scored an RBI single.

Closer to the end of the game, Tyler O’Neill ’25 and relievers Nick Mulvey ’25, Theo Farynick ’23 and Ryan Osinski ’26 allowed just one run on three hits.

Both teams finished with eight hits. Although the Bison were defeated, they did not commit an error in the three-game series.

Bucknell will next travel to Charleston, S.C. where they are set to play three games. Their first game of the series will be against Boston College with competitions against Ball State and Merrimack to follow.

The Bison are favored second in The Patriot League preseason poll. Even after their series loss this weekend, there were many strong points that the Bison can look forward to capitalizing on throughout the rest of the season.
