Men’s Tennis goes 1-1

Bucknell Men’s Tennis traveled to Bethlehem, Pa. to play Lehigh and Worcester, Ma. to battle Holy Cross over the weekend. 

The Bison were defeated by Lehigh 4-3. For doubles, Lehigh ended up clinching the overall point with wins at No. 1 doubles 6-4 and No. 3 6-3. 

The Bison gave it their all this match, and ended up winning three out of the six singles matches. Amar Tahirovic ’26, beat his opponent at No. 1 singles in a three set game with scores of 6-4, 3-6 and 6-4. At the No. 5 spot, Tim Zelikovsky ’24 was a straight set winner scoring 6-4 and 6-3. Finally, at No. 6, Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega ’26 closed out the match with a 7-6, 7-5 win.

Bucknell then faced off against Holy Cross to wrap up their regular season play. Fortunately, for the Bison, they pulled off a 4-1 victory. 

Bucknell locked up the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. The tandem of Nick Mueller ’23 and Michael Owen ’23 won 6-3 at the No. 1 spot, while the duo of Brendan McDonald ’26 and Zelikovsky defeated their opponents 6-2 at No. 3. 

At No. 2 doubles, the pair Bain and Tahirovic were leading 5-4, but were unable to finish after Bucknell had already clinched the doubles point. 

Bucknell then went on to claim victories with singles wins from three first years. At No. 1, Tahirovic dominated 6-0, 6-1, while at No. 5, Bain defeated his opponent 6-4, 6-4. Finally, at No. 4, McDonald won 2-1 when his opponent had to retire in the first set. 

The only win for Holy Cross came from No. 2 singles against Mueller. Additionally, the No. 3 and No. 6 singles did not have to finish after Bucknell had already won the overall match. 

Bucknell closed out the regular season with an overall 14-7 record, which is the team’s most wins since 2016. Regarding the Patriot League, the Bison finished tied in fourth place with Lehigh with a 4-3 conference record.
