Rowing defeats Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa.

Women’s Rowing hosted the Lehigh Mountain Hawks this past Sunday on the Susquehanna River for one of their final home races of the season, the Skotedis Cup. This event is named after John Skotedis, one of Bucknell Men’s and Women’s rowing coaches from 1986-1992.

The race was initially set to take place April 22; however, it was postponed due to high winds and thunderstorms. Fortunately, the weather Sunday morning was crisp and ready for the Bison to get on the water.

The Varsity Eight, composed of Juliette Gaggini ’24, Abby Gerst ’24, Abby Malek ’24, Maddie Wickers ’23, Caroline Brandt ’23, Kona Glenn ’25, Hayden Groves ’25, Haley Beardsley ’24 and Annabelle Kaeli ’24, beat Lehigh and finished with a time of 5:59.83, nearly eight seconds in front of the Mountain Hawks.

The Second Varsity Eight also finished strong with a time of 6:18.65, edging Lehigh’s Second Varsity Eight by eight seconds again. The First Varsity Four and the Second Varsity Four both finished just under 30 seconds in front of Lehigh.

This was a very successful weekend for the Bison in preparation for their next home race against both Villanova and Delaware this Saturday, April 29.

This Saturday the Bison will host their second home race in a row. This is their final event prior to their Patriot League Championship that will take place May 12 in Worcester, Mass., on Lake Quinsigamond.
