Men’s Golf battles before league championships

Bucknell Men’s Golf competed in the Upstate Battle this past weekend at Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton, N.Y. It was a three-team event in which the Bison went up against Colgate and St. Bonaventure.

As the final event before Patriot League Championships, this was both a warm-up week for the top squad for the Bison and let other members shine. Josh Holtschlag ’23 shared a tie for first place for the event with Robbie Herzig of Colgate, scoring a first round 74 and an under-par second round at 71.

Holtschlag made three birdies in the second round and shot 2-under par 34 on the back nine. James Robbins ’26 and Jake Maddaloni ’25 each tied for 15th place with +10 individual scores for the tournament.

Bucknell finished in third place with a team total of 607. Colgate won the event with a team score of 589 and St. Bonaventure finished eight strokes behind them with a team tally of 597.

“I think what worked in my favor the most part was just sticking to my game plan and leaving myself in the right spots to make pars,” Holtschlag said. “There were times where I could be aggressive and I was able to capitalize. With this finish, there is a lot of confidence moving forward and vibes are high heading into the Patriot League Championships.”

The Patriot League Championships will take place from April 28-30 at Hillendale Country Club in Phoenix, Md.
