Last weekend, the Bucknell Student Government reconvened for a second Congress session to discuss updates, procedures and elaborate on upcoming goals, all while having a fun time.
Before the session even came to regular order, the Congress broke off to play an entertaining activity to determine who got to go first for picture day. After that, President Sam Douds ’25 called the meeting to order and went through the introductory procedures smoothly.
During the public comments section, which occurred at the beginning, certain students came to voice their minds regarding the content and context of the upcoming meeting with the Board of Trustees and BSG. They specifically pressed the executive leaders to present their opinions regarding the experiences of minorities and marginalized groups on Bucknell’s campus, which they made apparent to Douds.
The executive members then reviewed their office hours, approved the minutes from last week’s meeting, reviewed the voting procedure and discussed a meeting they had with the Provost and Interim Dean of Students, which was supposed to be with Bucknell University President John Bravman.
After going over most of the updates, Congress was graced with the presence of former Bucknell Student Government President Ed Robinson (1986). He touched on his experience at Bucknell and stressed the importance of what each Congressman is doing to help change Bucknell for the better.
During the new business portion of the session, Douds instructed Congress to do an activity that would help inspire each senator and representative on ideas for specific resolutions and what to spend money on to help benefit the campus.
After the activity, the meeting ended with each committee chair member giving reports and updates on their various committees, in which most of them talked about upcoming meetings with supervisors to facilitate their goals.
