Bison Field Hockey hosted Miami (OH) this past weekend. Prior to the match up, the Bison had a 6-8 record and were undefeated on their home turf. The team pulled off a 2-1 second-half comeback to defeat the Miami (OH) RedHawks to maintain their winning streak and home and improved their overall record to 6-8.
The first period of the game started off slow on both ends. Neither team managed to grab the lead just yet. The Bison saw their first opportunity a few minutes in, but Lily Neilson’s ’25 shot was saved. A few minutes later Neilson made another attempt but was unable to find the back of the cage. Kira Leclercq ’26 took her chance about 10 minutes in but her shot went wide. The RedHawks had one shot in the whole first quarter but also went too wide.
Both teams took a 180 in the second quarter and combined 17 shots. Sarah Althouse ’27 tallied her first save over a minute into the second quarter. Around the 20 minute mark, the Bison pulled off four shots in just under five seconds. However, the RedHawks defense stood strong and prevented any goals from going in. Althouse continued to successfully defend the goal from the goal-hungry RedHawks for the majority of the period. Miami was finally able to score in the 27th minute off of a penalty corner that just got past the Bison defense.
As they entered the second half down 1-0, the Bison came in calm and collected. They managed to tie the game about 11 minutes into the third quarter off of a penalty corner. Hannah Guarente ’25 passed the ball in towards Nicky Punt ’26 who found Neilson who struck the ball towards the goalie’s head and into the net.
They ended the quarter on a high note, and that same energy bled into the start of the fourth quarter. The Orange and Blue scored the go-ahead goal just two minutes into the final quarter of the game. Neilson found Rachel Apa ’24 through numerous Miami defenders. Apa tapped the ball in for the Bison’s second goal of the game. This shot marked the Bison’s only shot of the game. Miami outshot them 8-1, however, the RedHawks were unable to take back the lead. Althouse’s impressive performance in goal kept the Bison alive.
Field Hockey will be back defending their home field and record on Friday, Oct. 20 as they host Lehigh in an epic Patriot League matchup.
