The Orange and Blue had another strong weekend as they raced up at Eastern Michigan’s Ford Lake Cup, where three of the Bison’s boats placed in the top four. The team brought up two Varsity Eights and one Varsity Four, finishing second as a team with 27 points, behind Delaware’s 32.
The first Varsity Eight boat won its first heat, pushing it to the A Final. Coxswain Katie Lash ’26 led the team to a 6:34.4 finish in prelims. This tied with UMass for the second-fastest qualifying time, both behind Delaware. In the finals, the team ultimately finished fourth behind Delaware, UMass and Temple.
The second Varsity Eight team also won their preliminary heat, led by coxswain Hattie Hopper ’26 and stroke Victoria Miller-Tuchon ’26. They narrowly passed West Virginia with only a second to spare. In the finals, the boat competed with a time of 6:55.8. This gave them the win over Delaware, East Michigan, West Virginia, UMass and Temple.
The first Varsity Four boat also excelled in their preliminary heat, easily finishing before their opponents. The boat was filled by Kona Glenn ’25, Maeve O’Keefe ’26, Clara Eikeboom ’27, Campbell Coonley ’27 and coxswain by Caroline Wieland ’27. The boat continued to dominate with a speedy 7:46.5 win in the finals, placing first in front of UMass and Delaware.
The Bison will come back for their final races at the Patriot League Championships in New Jersey on the Cooper River. But before, catch these athletes on May 4 at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
