This past Saturday, Oct. 21, Bison Men’s Soccer team fought their way through a close game and ultimately disappointing loss against Boston University at their home stadium. With this win, the Terriers were able to maintain their second-place positioning in the Patriot League only one point behind Loyola.
For most of the game, things stayed equal for both teams with scoring chances being far and few between. Bison goalkeeper Jake Nicoll ’25 was even able to make a diving save that kept the game scoreless at the end of the first half. Both teams only had two shots on goal as they went into the second half.
As the Bison entered the 54th minute of the game, they came close to taking the lead. Forward Charlie Holmes ’26 had a close shot on goal but was ultimately kicked out of bounds by a Terrier for a corner kick for the Bison. Then, a few minutes later in the 65th minute defender Collin Murphy ’24 had an attempted 1v1 shot on goal, which was again saved by the Terrier goalie.
As both teams wondered about the possibility of a tie game, the Terriers found the breakthrough that would put them on the scoreboard and win the game against the Bison 1-0. A Loyola player dribbled down the field to quickly be met with a slide tackle from defender Ben Sheffield ’26. Unfortunately, this did not work in the Bison’s favor as the ball was sent to the edge of the field toward another Terrier, who then sent in the perfect assist to his teammate to score the winning goal in the last four minutes of the game.
When the game ended, the final shot count was seven for the Terriers and five for the Bison, both teams had three corner kicks each, and the Bison goalie had two saves while the Terrier goalie had three. Men’s Soccer plays their next two games away at Lafayette this Saturday and Lehigh on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
