Men’s Basketball opened up their 129th season at home earlier this week against Delaware. The Blue Hens took control of the game early on, making it hard for the Bison to catch up.
The first five field goals were three-pointers, coming from Ruot Bijek ’26 and Jack Forrest ’24, giving the Bison their only lead of the game 6-3. Delaware took no time to steal that lead with two 3-pointers and run with it for a 16-6 score.
Noah Williamson ’26 managed to cut the deficit to 17-13 with a dunk and short jumper. But, the Blue Hens countered with two 3-pointers that led to a 13-0 run. The Bison trailed by as much as 24 points early in the second frame.
Despite trailing 44-25 at the half, the Bison kept up the energy. The second half was more closely contested as the Orange and Blue were only outscored 34-32. However, despite making it a closer game, the Bison were not able to recover from the first-half deficit.
Offensively, the Bison shot 21-for-54 from the field. Both teams tallied 10 3-pointers. The Bison shot 5-13 from the foul line and grabbed 31 boards. Defensively, the Orange and Blue grabbed 11 steals, with Elvin Edmonds IV ’25, Forrest and Josh Adoh ’24 collecting three each.
Forrest led the team with 18 points, followed by Edmonds IV and Williamson with nine each. Williamson also grabbed eight rebounds. Josh Bascoe ’25 came off the bench and dished out a career-high of eight assists.
Despite the disappointing loss, the Bison were cheered on by a crowd of over 1,000 students, creating an electric atmosphere for the team to play in.
The Bison will be on the road for the next few matchups on their schedule. Make sure to catch them at their next home game on Nov. 20 against Southern Indiana.
