Men’s Lacrosse headed to Maryland this past weekend to take on Patriot League foe Loyola. It was a game of momentum the whole time, with both teams landing their punches on the other offensively.
Connor Davis ’25 posted his sixth hat trick of the season, and got the Bison on the board first with his first goal, which was followed by an immediate 5-0 run by Loyola. With two seconds left in the half, Henry Boykin ’27 scored his first of two goals to bring the Bison back 5-2.
Over the first fourteen and a half minutes of the second quarter, the Bison went on an offensive tear, scoring eight unanswered goals. They outshot Loyola 13-6 in this time and didn’t turn the ball over a single time. After Loyola ended the run with a goal in the final second of the half, Bucknell went to the locker room up 10-6.
Peter Grandolfo ’27 scored less than a minute after the second half began to cushion the Bison lead, then Bucknell went ice cold.
Up until just over eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter, Loyola had scored four unanswered goals before Michael Meyer ’26 ended the Bison drought with his fifth goal of the day to put Orange and Blue up 12-10.
After this though, the Greyhounds would go on another 4-0 run of their own to take a two goal lead, now 14-12, with just over five minutes left in the contest.
Ethan Gyllenhaal ’24 tried to get the momentum back on the side of Bucknell after he intercepted a pass in Greyhound territory and took it all the way back for a score to make it 14-13. But, Loyola scored with about thirty seconds left to officially seal it.
Bucknell was outshot 20-16 in the second half and went 0-2 on its man-up opportunities.
“We have to stick to our game plan and trust each other on all sides of the ball to do our jobs,” Gyllenhaal said. “We all know what needs to be done but have to execute for a total of 60 minutes for that outcome we want.”
The Bison are now 3-8 overall and 2-4 in Patriot League play, and face off next against Le Moyne at home this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
