Friday, Sept. 13, Bison Field Hockey faced a tough 2-4 loss to the Wagner Seahawks after leading the game for 48 minutes.
For most of the afternoon, the Bison were commanding the field with a 2-0 lead. 11 minutes into the game, Lily Neilson ’25 put the Orange and Blue on the board. After scoreless second and third quarters, Reese Czajkowski ’28 assisted the Bison’s second goal scored by Katie Lintz ’27.
However, the Seahawks successfully scored four goals in the last quarter. Between Wagner’s second and third goals, the Orange and Blue transitioned goalies from Sarah Althouse ’27 to Abby Zanelli ’28. Althouse recorded three saves for the afternoon.
In the final 10 minutes, the Orange and Blue attempted three shots, including a penalty shot from Kira Leclercq ’26, but were unable to come back and win the game.
Sunday, Sept. 15, the Bison bounced back from their loss to Wagner with a 2-1 win over the Columbia Lions. Scoring two goals in two minutes, the Orange and Blue created a strong 2-0 lead.
Other than the Lions’ unsuccessful shot attempt only 52 seconds into the game, the first quarter consisted of little action. The scoreless first half continued as Colombia’s goalkeeper deflected multiple shots.
Scoring off of a penalty corner, Gianna Puorro ’26 lit up the board for the Bison after being assisted by Leclercq. A minute later, Sally Hunter ’28 tapped in the shot attempt from Puorro off of another penalty corner, increasing Bucknell’s lead. Three minutes later, the Lions managed to score off a penalty corner. Only allowing one shot in the fourth quarter, the Bison defense recovered, ultimately leading to the second win of the season.
The Bison next return home for two games to face Boston University on Friday, Sept. 20 and Penn State on Sunday, Sept. 22.
