On Saturday, Sept. 28, Bison Field Hockey dominated the Holy Cross Crusaders with a final score of 5-1, improving their overall record to 4-5 and remaining undefeated at 2-0 in the Patriot League.
In the game, Lily Neilson ’25 scored twice, becoming the third player in Bucknell Field Hockey history to have reached 100 career points. Kira Leclercq ’26 also had a record game, recording her first hat trick. The Bison induced 13 penalty corners and scored off four of them, three of them coming from Leclercq.
In the first quarter, the Bison only took a single shot. After a goal scored by the Crusaders, the Orange and Blue were trailing early in the second quarter. For most of the remainder of the contest, the Bison pressured the Crusaders, keeping the ball in the Crusaders’ end.
In the second quarter, Neilson’s shot off a corner deflected off of the foot of a Crusader, resulting in another corner attempt for the Bison. Off this second attempt, Leclercq scored her first goal of the game, tying up the match.
Less than six minutes into the third quarter, the Bison obtained six penalty corners. Leclercq faked a shot and passed to Neilson, who fired the ball into the goal, giving the Bison the lead. Less than two minutes later, Neilson fired again, scoring her second goal in the game.
With this shot, Neilson notched 49 career goals and 103 points, earning her a spot in the career points record book. She moved up to second place on Bucknell’s all-time goals list,and she made it to the Patriot League’s all-time top 10 career goal scorers list.
In the fourth quarter, Leclercq scored twice more. The defensive player recorded her first three goals of the season, earning 10 career goals. Nicky Punt ’26 had three assists, putting her at a tie for second in Bucknell’s single-game assist record list. Sarah Althouse ’27 also had a big game, recording five saves.
The Orange and Blue return home for their next two games. The Bison play the Lafayette Leopards at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 and the Lock Haven Bald Eagles at 12 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6.
