This past weekend, Bison Volleyball headed down to Washington, D.C. for two big Patriot League matchups with their 12-game win streak on the line. The Bison continued to perform and came up with two big wins, helping them tie their longest winning streak in program history at 14 wins and tying South Dakota for the longest active winning streak in the NCAA.
Up first, Bucknell faced American University for the second time this season, the only team to have handed the Bison a loss so far. After the early season loss to the Eagles, the Orange and Blue have gone on to win 12 straight games and go 5-0 in Patriot League play.
The game stretched into the fifth set, but the Bison were able to finish strong to secure the win (26-24, 25-19, 20-25, 21-25, 15-7). Each player had a crucial role in the victory. Bri Frazilus ’26 led with 17 kills; followed by Cameron Lloyd ’27 who had 12 kills and 20 digs; Tijana Kostic ’26 finished with 13 kills and 12 digs and Caleigh O’Connell ’26 racked up 46 assists and 15 digs. Veteran Jordan Hardy ’25 had 28 digs, and Sidney Shaffer ’27 added eight kills and eight blocks.
The Bison never trailed for the first two sets and established control early on in the night. American’s first lead did not come until the first two points of the third set. This set off a control switch as the Bison began to make errors and American took over for the third and fourth sets.
Going into the final set, American had the advantage. However, Riley Tucker ’27 helped pull the Orange and Blue out to a quick 6-2 lead at the start. American responded quickly and closed the gap with three straight points. A kill and block from Tucker helped end AU’s run. A block from O’Connell ended the match.
The next day, the Orange and Blue faced Navy, a team that earned its first win on the season against Lehigh the night before. High off their intense victory the night before, the Bison set the tone early. As always, the game was won with contributions coming from many different players. Kostic collected six aces and 11 kills to go along with a .550 hitting percentage. Shaffer added nine kills and five blocks with a .412 hitting percentage. The Bison had a quick win, 25-15, 25-9 and 25-18.
The Bison led the entire first set as the closest Navy came was a 2-2 tie. Right off the bat, the Bison established a 12-6 lead, capitalized by a kill from Lloyd. Navy fought back with a 3-0 run of their own but were unable to throw off the Bison. Hardy helped with the winning score of the first set on a dig.
The second set went similarly as the Bison again ran off with the lead and didn’t slow down. They jumped out to an immediate 5-1 lead that Navy managed to tie at 6-6 later. As Navy crept closer, the Orange and Blue broke away with nine straight points. Kostic helped secure the set with an ace, giving the Bison the win 25-9.
Navy was the first to score in the third set. The Bison, eager to limit the game to three sets, fired back and and eventually found themselves up with a 10-6 lead. Once again, the Midshipmen were able to tie it up off of a 4-0 run. Navy got their first lead of the day at 15-13 and then again at 17-16. Yet, the Bison did not falter and responded with a 7-0 run that would put them up and keep them there. A kill from Shaffer closed out the set 25-18 and the Bison would get their 14th straight victory of the season.
The Orange and Blue will be back looking to keep the win streak alive this weekend at home against Loyola (Md.) at 3 p.m. and then hit the road the next day for a matchup at Colgate.
