Bucknell Women’s Volleyball has been crushing the competition this season. Their roster is stacked with powerhouses, allowing them to dominate over the teams they face. Just this past weekend, the Bison dominated over both the Navy Midshipmen and the American Eagles.
The win was Bucknell’s first-ever sweep over American. This puts the Bison at a record of 19-2 overall and 11-1 in the Patriot League, tying the program record for conference wins. In addition, Bucknell’s 14 sweeps on the season put them in Bucknell’s history book, trailing just behind the program record of 17 sweeps set in 1983. Bri Frazilus ’26 was named the Patriot League Volleyball Player of the Week for tallying up 26 total kills, two block assists and three digs. Frazilus ranks first in the conference in kills per set (3.64) and second in points per set (3.93).
The Bison came out in the first set a little shaky against Navy. The Midshipmen led 10-6, continuing the dominance. The Bison slowly trailed behind until a spark of energy allowed them to go up 18-15; Navy fought back right away, going on a 5-0 run to regain the lead. However, the Bison did not quit. They came back to tie the game twice, pushing it into sudden death. A Navy error allowed the Bison to steal the set with a score of 27-25.
Energy from the first match bled into the second, pushing Bucknell to lead 6-1. Navy did not allow this to remain for long, tying the game at 9-9. Back and forth occurred until the Bison went on a 7-0 run. The Midshipmen tried to catch up but could not do so in time, ending the set with a score of 25-20. The third set began with, again, some back-and-forth action. Bucknell held their lead with the Midshipmen trailing closely behind during the entire set. The Bison clinched this set and finished the match with a final score of 25-19. Frazilus had an impressive 12 kills, Sidney Shaffer ’27 trailed behind with nine kills, Tijana Kostic ’26 with seven, Cameron Lloyd ’27 tallied more with six kills and Riley Tucker ’27 had five. Caleigh O’Connell ’26 supplied the team with 34 assists and Jordan Hardy ’25 grabbed 17 digs. Overall, these Bucknell women make a powerful, well-rounded team.
Against American, the third and final match was the closest out of all three. Chaos occurred with both teams trading the lead multiple times. This back-and-forth pattern continued until the Bison blocked a tough ball, allowing them to win in overtime with a score of 27-25. Frazilus, for the second time this weekend, led the Bison in kills with 14. Shaffer added nine kills, with Kostic right behind with eight kills and nine digs. Hardy collected 16 digs and O’Connell provided 35 assists. The Bison truly fought for their win with a hitting percentage of .306 to American’s .167.
The Bucknell Volleyball team is dominating this year, so don’t miss their next matches on the road against Holy Cross and Army on Nov. 8 and 9.
