Saturday, Nov. 2, Bison Field Hockey was defeated 2-0 by American University, whose win clinched the Eagles their regular season title and home-field advantage in the Patriot League Tournament.
The first half of the game was a rigorous defensive battle between the teams. The Bison only managed one shot in the first quarter, but they began putting more offensive pressure in the second quarter. The game remained scoreless going into halftime.
With less than 30 seconds left in the third quarter, the Eagles pressed the attack and forced a penalty corner, resulting in their first goal of the game. With five minutes left in the match, the Bison pulled goalie Sarah Althouse ’27 to bring out an extra offensive player. Despite the Bison’s extra offensive pressure, American earned another penalty corner and added an insurance goal.
The Orange and Blue outshot the Eagles 11-5 and drew one more penalty corner than the Eagles, but they couldn’t generate a victory.
The Patriot League Championship will take place this Saturday, Nov. 9, with competing teams to be determined.
