Aprile Englehart, a beloved campus staff member who currently works as a lead cashier and has been working for Bucknell for 28 years, will not be returning to campus for the start of the semester as she recovers from sepsis. After a surgery in December for a hernia repair and visits to her primary care, urgent care, and surgeon, Englehart was taken to the ER and admitted for sepsis, with surgery the next day to remove the hernia repair and infection. The recovery process from sepsis and the surgeries will take at least another six weeks, during which Englehart will not be able to work.
Englehart loves her job, largely because she loves the people, having said “I am overwhelmed with how wonderful the students and staff are at Bucknell,” she stated. “I just love being at work…I get paid to socialize with my kids.”
Englehart is very disappointed to not be on campus to start the semester, and wanted to thank all of the people who have been supporting her recovery journey.
“I really want to express my love and gratitude to each and every Bucknellian who has reached out to me, that is staff, former students and students all,” Englehart shared with “The Bucknellian.” “I am deeply saddened I will not be there to start the semester and see everyone after our holiday break. Bucknell is my life and I am certainly overwhelmed with the support I have received. To the Women’s Lacrosse and Men’s Lacrosse teams, which some of my boys visited in the hospital and certainly made this momma heart feel better but sad to let them see me this way, from the bottom of my heart, I love you. To all of the athletics teams, you all have touched me so much and words can’t even begin to tell you how much it means to me. I have a long road of recovery by means of negligence of a doctor which could have been avoided had he listened and not dismissed my concerns 5 times in 2 weeks. Always advocate for yourself–we know our bodies better than anyone. May you all have a great semester until I see you and good luck to my in-season players. I love each and everyone of you.”
Englehart’s daughter has started a GoFundMe to collect donations to support Englehart’s medical care and recovery while she is not able to work, linked here.
