Guess where we went?
Back to IV Coffee! While we visited many different coffee shops within the area, IV Coffee in Sunbury was hands-down one of the ones that we promised to return to. Last time we went at the peak of fall and loved the apple chaider (chai-cider). This time we wanted to explore other drinks amongst their plethora of offerings, including their cold brew.
Cold brew is a strong coffee made by steeping or brewing coffee grounds in cold water for an extended period of time, between 8 to 24 hours. This differs from iced coffee in its brewing process, as the water remains cold from start to finish; iced coffee is brewed hot and then cooled down. Cold brew claims to have a less acidic taste compared to normal coffee, with a strong and rich flavor. Since the coffee grounds are steeped in the water for a much longer time, cold brew has a higher caffeine content by volume than its iced or hot coffee counterparts. Cold brew became a part of mainstream coffee in 2015 when Starbucks introduced this drink to their stores, and it became a permanent menu item.
Now, many boutique coffee shops offer specialty and flavored cold brew options. One common offering is Nitro Cold Brew, or nitrogen infused cold brew, which offers a foamy, creamy texture to the rich aromatic beverage. At IV Coffee, they offer various flavors with both Nitro and pre-made to-go options. Some of the notable options include Nutella, vanilla and marshmallow cold brews which can serve as the base drink to additional flavors.
Grace got the Caramel Shortbread Pie Cold Brew which had caramel sauce, vanilla cold brew, and shortbread cold foam (so cool!), and Grace tried the Red Velvet Cake Latte, a sneak peek to Valentine’s Day! This one had red velvet, white mocha and cupcake cold foam (also so cool!). They also offered cold brew to-go; Grace was drawn to the Nutella cold brew (as she should be), and all three drinks were absolutely delicious. While we were checking out, something caught our eye: red velvet deep dish cookie (gasp). The cookie had macadamia nuts as well as white chocolate chunks and paired incredibly well with our drinks! IV Coffee also offers other pastry items such as muffins and other cookies.
This week, we rate the coffee 4.8/5!
Flavor: With many unique combinations, IV Coffee caters to those who are looking for a sweet treat through coffee or non-coffee options. Taking into consideration the drinks we got in the fall along with this most recent trip, Grace and I have enjoyed each of the coffee flavors we’ve tried.
Fun: IV Coffee releases a rotation of seasonal menu items that always peaks our attention! Contemplating which drink to try is like playing a fun game with low risk. Because it rained the day we went, we decided to grab a seat by the windows and enjoyed catching up. Other customers were also taking shelter from the rain, relaxing on the couch!
Fame: When Grace posted a picture of Grace with their drinks on her story, many friends asked where it was! It is still surprising to us how IV Coffee is not widely known on campus, and we are more than happy to share this hidden gem!
Funds: The week that we went was actually the 1 year anniversary of IV Coffee in Sunbury so our coffees were buy one, get one 50% off! The jug of cold brew was also $1 off!
