Bison Men’s Lacrosse stunned Merrimack in a dominating game this past weekend ending in a 23-7 win against the Warriors. The second half was especially crucial for the Bison as they outscored Merrimack 12-1 with 8 different scorers and 14 different players.
Connor Davis ’25 and Michael Meyer ’26 deserve recognition for their strong performance with eight goals apiece. Davis’ goals are tied for second-most in Bison history and now officially sits fourth all-time for the league with 116 goals. Additionally, Owen Kovacs ’26 and Will Hopkins ’26 put themselves on the map with hat tricks and three combined assists, and Sean Berrigan ’27 managed a multi-goal game and an assist.
Bison history was also made during the season opener as it was the seventh time in school history that the team has scored 23 goals in a single game. There were only two other times that the Bison scored more than 23 points: once scoring 26 points against Denver in 1992 and once scoring 25 goals against VMI in 1983.
For much of the first quarter of the game, the score remained at 3-3. It was only with five minutes left that the Bison managed a 8-4 advantage against the Warriors with goals from Meyer, Hopkins, Davis and Cam Doolan ’25.
The second quarter proved a little quieter for both teams in comparison to their combined 12 total goals scored in the first. Davis once again scored twice for the Bison and Kovacs had his first goal of the night bringing the score to 11-6 going into the half.
It was in the third quarter that the Orange and Blue really blew the Warriors out of the water, outscoring them 9-0 and bringing the score to a whopping 20-6. Davis was able to snag four more goals with assists from Meyer for three of them. Hopkins also tacked on two more goals, while Berrigan and Peter Grandolfo ’27 had an assist and a goal each.
Just 40 seconds into the final quarter of the game, Meyer impressed fans with his fourth goal of the game. Kovacs did anything but slow down and scored two more goals giving the Bison their 12th straight goal of the game. The Warriors, however, were able to shut down a second half shutout after they scored with only 1:03 left in the game.
The Orange and Blue ended the game out-shooting the Warriors 56-34, having more ground ball pick-ups (43-34), and only 22 turnovers in comparison to the Warriors 27. The Bison were also able to convert both of their extra man advantages.
