Saturday afternoon Bucknell Women’s Basketball hosted Army West Point, who was the number two team in the Patriot League going into the day. However, a combined offensive effort from the Bison led them to a 75-65 victory with four players scoring in double figures.
The Bison fell 9-2 within the first three minutes of the game. They quickly turned things around with a 18-1 run over the course of the first quarter. The momentum they created would fuel them for the rest of the game. At the end of the first, the Bison had made eight of their 10 shot attempts.
Army kept the Orange and Blue on their toes in the second quarter by cutting the deficit twice. They got as close as 30-26, but Ashley Sofilkanich ’27 managed to sink a layup and keep the Bison up going into halftime.
Sofilkanich continued to score as the second half started, adding five points to the Bison’s 19 in the third quarter. Army made a few comebacks to keep the score close but the Bison’s offense kept them ahead of the Black Knights. They closed the third quarter with a 5-0 run for comfort.
The Orange and Blue led by 17 points in the final quarter of the game. Isabella King ’25 hit an impressive three-pointer to capitalize on a Bison fast break. Sofilkanich also added ten points before the Bison starters were subbed out. Despite the Black Knights’ final efforts, the Bison won 75-65.
Sofilkanich finished with 25 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, two steals and three blocks. King also scored in double digits with 17 points (seven for nine shooting) and collected six rebounds. Reese Zemitis ’28 was close behind with 15 points of her own. Lastly, Tuana Coskun ’27 added 10 points and 5 boards.
