Women’s Golf underwent their second tournament of the spring season at the DeBary Country Club for the annual Babs Steffens Invitational. This is the second time the team has traveled to Florida for the spring. They competed on Monday, Feb. 24, and Tuesday, Feb. 25 and finished 12th as a team.
The team completed rounds one and two on Monday. While off to a slow start in the first round in the morning, the Orange and Blue picked up in the afternoon as Katherine Vice ʼ27 led the team with a 4-over-par 76, followed by a 78 from Paige Richter ʼ26. Vice had three birdies and 11 pars after 36 holes on the day and tied for 44th individual place at a score of 160. Richter made even on the course with a birdie at eight and seven pars. Nicole Yun ʼ27 and Sophia Bardunias ʼ28 rounded out by picking up an 81 and 82, respectively. The day’s performance led the Bison to 13th place at the end of the first day with combined scores of 332 and 317 from the two rounds.
The next day proved to be a great one as the team posted a tournament-best round of 315.
Erin Drahnak ʼ26 stood out as she beat her personal best playing as an individual. She made a birdie and 14 pars, giving her a 2-over-par 74. This tied her with the ninth-best score on the entire field. Richter improved her performance as the lowest player of the week with 15 pars that gave her a 3-over-par 75. Bardunias and Yun followed next with a 79 and 80 respectively. Tara Thomas ʼ25 rounded out with an 81, and Vice finished with an 82.
The Bison will be back in action in two weeks at the Jackrabbit Spring Invitational on March 10-11 in Boulder City, Nev.
