Men’s Tennis continued their dominant spring season as they competed against Binghamton and Colgate this past week. The Bison stayed in Lewisburg for their spring home opener against the Bearcats on Friday, March 21, then traveled over to Syracuse for an away match on Sunday against the Raiders. The squad swept Binghamton 7-0 and took Colgate 6-1, updating their season to a 12-5 record.
The Binghamton match kicked off with the battle for the doubles point. Amar Tahirovic ʼ26 and Brendan McDonald ʼ26 defeated their opponents 6-3, and Adam Stavrakas ʼ26 and Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega ʼ26 swept their Bearcat challengers 6-0. These two victories gave the Bison the first point of the day and left sophomore players Will Robinson and Liam Kilmer’s doubles match unfinished, 3-4.
This winning momentum carried into singles play, as every Bison won their singles match. Tahirovic won in two sets, 6-0, 6-2. Stavrakas, Robinson and Bain followed in a similar fashion with matching scores of 6-3, 6-1 each. Kilmer beat his Bearcat opponent 7-5, 6-4, and McDonald won his match in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. The Bison won 14 of their 15 sets of the day, giving them seven points to fully sweep Binghamton.
The Orange and Blue then traveled to New York on Sunday to face Colgate. The team continued to dominate in doubles play, as McDonald and Tahirovic, Stavrakas and Bain and Kilmer and Robinson all won their doubles matches to take the point, going 6-3, 7-6 and 6-4, respectively.
Two Bison won their singles matches in two sets. Tahirovic defeated his Raider opponent 6-2, 6-1, and Stavrakas also won out going 6-3, 6-3. Stavrakas is now 28-3 in singles matches for the season, third all-time in program history. Tahirovic is 25-3 for the season as well and has 75 career wins in his three years with the program. Robinson lost his match in two sets, finishing 5-7, 0-6. Bain won his match in three, claiming a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory. Kilmer and McDonald followed suit, going 6-7, 6-3, 6-0 and 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, respectively. These wins tallied five points for the Bison, giving them a 6-1 win over Colgate.
The Orange and Blue will be back in action at home this weekend on Saturday, March 29 at 11 a.m., to face off against the Loyola Greyhounds.
