The Bison advanced further into their spring season of Patriot League play as they took on Navy and Lafayette this past weekend. The team stayed home on Saturday for their match against Navy, then traveled to Easton, Pa. to battle with Lafayette. While the Orange and Blue lost their first match to Navy 2-4, they came back on Sunday to sweep Lafayette 4-0. The team record for Patriot League play is now 4-1 for the spring season.
Going into Saturday, the Bison and Navy were the only two undefeated teams in the league. The squad struggled in doubles play, and Amar Tahirovic ’26 and Brendan McDonald ’26 lost their match 2-6 against their Midshipmen opponents. Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega ’26 and Adam Stavrakas ’26 fell similarly with a score of 4-6. Will Robinson ’27 and Liam Kilmer ’27 won their match 7-5, but it was not enough, as the Bison lost the doubles point to Navy.
Singles started strong for the Bison, as two players picked up quick wins. Tahirovic took his solo match 6-4, 7-6, and Stavrakas followed suit with a 6-2, 7-6 pick-up. However, the points for the Bison stopped there. Kilmer and McDonald lost their matches in straight sets, going 3-6, 6-7 and 5-7, 2-6, respectively. Robinson also lost his match in two (6-3, 6-3), giving Navy enough points to claim the match and leave Bain’s singles game unfinished.
But Sunday told a different story as the Orange and Blue came back to defeat the Leopards. The team started off strong with doubles play as Bain and Stavrakas won their match 6-1. Despite Tahirovic and McDonald’s loss, Kilmer and Nelson Alapi ’28 took their match 6-4, giving the Bison enough to win the doubles point.
Tahirovic expanded his singles win record to 78 career wins with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over his Lafayette opponent. This moved him up to have the second most career wins in the Bison program. Stavrakas also continued his singles success, winning his 20th singles match in a row, 6-2, 6-0. Finally, Bain followed suit by defeating his opponent in two sets, 6-1, 6-4. These three victories gave the Orange and Blue three more points, automatically winning the entire match. This left Kilmer’s, McDonald’s and Shiv Singh’s ’28 matches unfinished.
The Bison will be back in action this Saturday, April 12, against Lehigh and Holy Cross.
