The Bison Women’s Water Polo team competed at Michigan in conference play this past weekend. They faced Harvard on Saturday and Brown on Sunday. In both games, the opponents established early leads that the Orange and Blue struggled to recover from.
In their first game, the Bison trailed 4-0 in the start of the opening period against Harvard. Gwen Kallmeyer ʼ26 scored first for the Orange and Blue, followed by Olivia Hopper ʼ28. Harvard closed out the period with two more goals and held onto a 6-2 lead.
Kallmeyer scored her second goal in the second period. Sidney Finkler ʼ25 added one herself. But the Crimson ran up the score to 12-4 before the halftime buzzer. In the third quarter, the Bison struggled to find the back of the net and went scoreless. Harvard managed to score four and push their lead even further.
Caitlin Stott ʼ27 was responsible for the Orange and Blue’s final goal of the game. Harvard would go on to win 18-5.
The second game of the weekend was much closer for the Bison. Brown scored the only two goals of the opening quarter. Hopper opened up the scoring for the Orange and Blue with two goals in the second quarter, with Brown then scoring two more. Stott added one more in the second quarter, and the Bears scored a fifth goal to close out the first half.
Hayden Hedstrom ʼ28 opened up the third quarter with a goal to get the Bison within one point. Brown responded with a goal, then Hopper countered with another. The Bears took control of the remainder of the period and got off three goals.
Boati Motau ʼ25 and Kallmeyer each added one more goal to the Orange and Blue efforts. However, they were unable to catch up to the Bears. Brown won 11-7.
The Bison will be back on home territory this weekend to close out their regular season and celebrate their seniors in a matchup against Princeton Saturday, April 12 at 2 p.m.
