Bison Baseball took on a series against the Holy Cross Crusaders at Depew Field. The Orange and Blue were victorious in game one on Saturday but dropped both in the doubleheader on Sunday.
In the first game of the series, Billy Kender ʼ25 scored the winning run off an error in the ninth inning to bring the Bison their second straight walk-off win. Kender led off in the bottom of the ninth with an infield single down the third base line, beating the throw. Michael Trommer ʼ26 added another single to put two runners on base with no outs, following suit from his walk-off double against Lehigh. Ryan Facinelli ʼ26 launched a ball that was snagged by the third baseman and looked like it would be a routine double-play but turned into an error, allowing Kender to come home and giving the Bison the win, 1-0.
Tyler O’Neill ʼ25 and Jonathan Adelmann ʼ27 combined to pitch the first shutout for the Bison since their 2-0 win against Navy in the 2023 Patriot League Semifinals. O’Neill pitched eight innings for the third time this season and allowed three hits and three walks with six strikeouts. O’Neill earned the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week for his eight-inning performance. Adelmann earned his second win of the season, throwing a scoreless ninth inning and leaving a runner stranded on second.
Both the Bison and Crusaders had four hits in the game. The Crusaders made three errors, the last of which cost them the game. Tyler Dunn ʼ25 and John Calabrese ʼ28 had the lone two hits for the Orange and Blue until the ninth inning. Calabrese has 15 hits in the 20 collegiate games he’s played in.
The Bison ended with a victory on Saturday but fell in both games of the doubleheader on Sunday, 8-6 and 7-3.
Dunn had three hits, three RBIs and a walk on Sunday, extending his on-base streak to 27 games. Dunn earned all three RBIs off an effective single ball put in play. Billy Fluharty ʼ27 had three hits on the day, going 2-for-2 in the first game with a walk and a triple. Kender, Trommer, Chris Morabito ʼ27 and Calabrese had a hit in each game. Kender and Trommer increased their on-base streaks to 16 and 11, respectively. Trommer had two RBIs in game one and Morabito had an RBI in each, one via his second home run of the season.
Ben Magovern ʼ25 started strong on the mound in game two. In six innings, he allowed only one earned run off four hits, fanning five batters and walking one.
