Orange and Blue Men’s Tennis put a strong end to their regular season as they defeated Lehigh and Holy Cross 4-0 each on Saturday in Bethlehem, Pa. These recent wins pushed the Bison to a 16-6 spring record overall and 6-1 in the Patriot League, giving them the No. 2 seed for the upcoming conference tournament.
Saturday started off at 9 a.m. for the team as doubles kicked off against Lehigh. Dynamic duo Amar Tahirovic ’26 and Brendan McDonald ’26 won their match 7-5, while Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega ’26 and Adam Stavrakas ’26 defeated their opponents 6-2, scoring the Bison the first point of the day.
Continuing the momentum, singles was a straight-shot for the squad. Liam Kilmer ’27, whose doubles match was left unfinished, quickly won his singles game in two sets, 6-2, 6-2. Tahirovic also won his match, 6-4, 6-0. Bain scored the last point for the Bison, winning 7-5, 6-4. Stavrakas, McDonald and Will Robinson ’27 all had unfinished matches. These three wins and the doubles point gave the Bison a quick 4-0 sweep for their first competition of the day.
But the team was not done for the day. A little past noon, the Orange and Blue challenged Holy Cross. The Bison’s two dominant pairs continued their doubles successes, with Bain and Stavrakas winning 6-1. Tahirovic and McDonald followed suit with a 6-3 victory over their Crusader opponents. These two wins were enough to win the doubles point, leaving Kilmer and Robinson’s match unfinished.
Tahirovic opened the singles success with a two-set 6-1, 6-3 win. Stavrakas and McDonald followed suit, winning 6-1, 7-5 and 6-4, 6-1, respectively. This weekend’s wins moved Stavrakas and Tahirovic up in their win records to over 30 matches each. They are only the second and third players in program history to do so. Their wins, along with McDonald’s, left Kilmer’s, Robinson’s and first-year Shiv Singh’s matches unfinished. This also ties the team’s record for the second most wins in team history. This record was matched by last season’s squad. The record for most team victories in a season was set in 1988 with 19 match wins.
The Bison will play their first match in the Patriot League tournament quarterfinal on Friday, April 18 at 4 p.m. at home against Lafayette.
