Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) is an international honors organization for accounting, finance and information systems students. Bucknell’s Omicron Eta chapter of BAP has officially begun the process to launch their newest service initiative: a Professional Clothing Closet.
Clothing closets exist in multiple forms as different clubs’ projects on Bucknell’s campus as well as college campuses overall. Fran’s House is currently home to the Transition Closet, operated by Fran’s House and GSA members, which operates as a space containing gender-affirming clothing for students who need that resource. Bucknell BAP’s Professional Clothing Closet will serve a similar but more specific purpose, providing workplace and interview formal clothes free of charge to any student in need. While the closet is not yet open to students, the project has already received generous donations and made significant behind-the-scenes progress towards opening its doors.
Though they have yet to land on a permanent location for the closet, the organization will hopefully announce one soon. Once launched, the closet will serve as a free resource for Bucknell students in need of professional attire for contexts like networking events, career fairs and interviews.
BAP is currently seeking donations of professional clothing and accessories, including suits, blazers, dress pants, skirts, shoes, ties, jewelry and portfolios, as well as monetary contributions to help cover cleaning costs and purchase hard-to-stock items. Donations of gently used, cleaned and good-condition items are welcomed and appreciated. These contributions will allow the closet to provide students with access to a wide range of sizes and styles, helping ensure all students can feel confident and prepared for professional opportunities.
This initiative is maintained by members of Beta Alpha Psi with support from the chapter’s service team and faculty advisor. As a registered nonprofit organization, BAP can provide receipts for in-kind and monetary donations upon request. Community members who wish to donate or learn more about the project are encouraged to contact Amber Lawson ([email protected]) or Kelly Trinh ([email protected]).
