U.S.-based tech giant Apple recently acquired the broadcast rights for Formula 1 racing in the United States. This means that at the end of the year, F1 races will no longer be covered on ESPN, instead being broadcast on Apple TV. As part of the deal, Apple will pay F1 around $150 million per year for five years. Formula 1’s own streaming service, F1 TV Premium, will continue to be available in the U.S. only for users with an active Apple TV subscription.
Monday saw parts of the internet go down as Amazon Web Services experienced a disruption. Amazon operates four cloud computing centers across America, with two toward the West Coast and two closer to the East Coast. Amazon’s U.S.-East-1 Region center in Virginia, their oldest and largest cloud computing site, was the root of the problem. The failure stemmed from a Domain Name System (DNS) resolution issue, which caused other services to go down. The outage highlighted the fragility behind the internet, which is primarily reliant on infrastructure provided by Amazon, Google and Microsoft.

The cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war is being tested after Israel halted aid into Gaza following an attack on its troops by Hamas. Israel had also carried out several air strikes across Gaza, resulting in at least 30 confirmed casualties.
On Sunday, thieves used a basket lift to gain entrance to the Louvre Museum in Paris, France, where they smashed a display case and stole jewelry from the Napoleonic era. Culture Minister Rachida Dati called it a professional operation in which 9 pieces of “inestimable value” were taken. The theft took seven minutes and occurred about 30 minutes after the museum had opened. Recovery of the jewels may be impossible, as thieves often cut pieces down to make them unrecognizable. The theft comes at a time when the museum has been faced with high numbers of visitors and understaffing issues.
