This Saturday, Nov. 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Larison Dining, the Global Student Council (GSC) will host its third annual Global Gala, marking one of the newest additions to Bucknell’s lineup of cultural club galas. While many cultural organizations draw on shared heritage or traditions, GSC stands apart, created not around a single cultural affinity but around the belief that every student, regardless of identity or background, deserves a space to belong.
This year’s Gala embraces a theme that reaches across borders: sports. Whether someone grew up watching cricket in Lahore, football in São Paulo, basketball in New York or cheering at Sojka, sports remain one of the clearest ways people learn teamwork, passion, focus and resilience. Each country has its own favorite games, each household its own rituals, yet once you are invited to play, it takes only a moment for boundaries to dissolve. This Gala leans into that idea of finding connection not through what separates us, but through what unites us.
Guests can expect a wide and diverse menu, including five entrées, along with starters, desserts and drinks. And if you haven’t purchased your ticket yet, you can still do so through the Box Office.
This year also marks an important milestone. It is the first time the event officially carries the full Gala status. What began as a small idea tested in earlier years now stands beside the other major cultural celebrations on campus. It is also the first Gala organized entirely by a sophomore board, many of whom are working on something of this scale for the first time.
Now comes the part that is hardest to write when you are the one leading it.
Everything above sounds smooth and confident, but the truth is that we are simply giving this our all. The board is excited, nervous, hopeful and truly invested in making this a meaningful event. We are learning as we go, trying new things, discovering what works and putting in effort every single day. We cannot promise this will be the best Gala Bucknell has ever seen. What we can promise is that it is being created with care, intention and a lot of heart.
More than anything, we want everyone who walks into Larison to feel like they belong. To feel seen. To feel connected. To feel that GSC is a place where differences are welcomed and similarities bring us closer.
The board warmly invites you to join us and be part of the evening.
We hope to see you on Saturday.
