Voice Professor Emily Martin, Ellen P. Williams Associate Professor in Music and Alan Johnson, pianist, will present a free, public faculty recital in Natalie Davis Rooke Recital Hall on Sunday, Nov. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Martin, the director of Bucknell’s Voice Lab, is an American lyric soprano who has regularly received acclaim for her “enchanting iridescence” (The Sarasota Herald-Tribune). She has been called “dramatically energetic and skillful” (The Philadelphia Inquirer). Hailed by The Chicago Tribune as one of 10 “The Best Classical Recordings of 2020”, Martin released the album Let Evening Come: American Songs Old and New on Albany Records, which collects the songs of never-before-recorded American composers, stretching across time and a variety of styles. Her career in opera has spanned debuts with such companies as the Santa Fe Opera, Palm Beach and Nevada Opera, among others. Co-founder of the international trio Women on the Verge, she has worked extensively as a performer in opera and recitals. Martin is a sought-after masterclass clinician, artist-in-residence, producer and stage director.
Martin was awarded a U.S. Fulbright Scholar Award for 2022-2023 to research at the Royal Conservatoire at The Hague in the New Audiences and Innovative Practices Master of Music. She was also invited to join the voice faculty of the Conservatoire in Spring 2023. As a lifelong educator and registered yoga teacher, she has led workshops in arts entrepreneurship, voice work and musician-specific movement classes worldwide.
