As spring rolls in, slowly but surely, multiple organizations around campus are excited to contribute some fun to this newfound sun. Contained in this article are several of those upcoming events, with general information and attendance details so you can mark your calendars now!
This week is Greek Week, and today at 6pm is “Greek Sing,” open to all on campus. Groups of student talent from each sorority and fraternity on campus will serenade audiences in Trout Auditorium, and competitors will be awarded rankings based on total votes.
LACOS Gala will be tomorrow, Saturday, April 11 at 6pm in Larison Dining Hall. Come out for a night of incredible performances celebrating Latin-American talent!
The CAP Center’s Core team has stacked the remainder of the semester with an all-campus event opportunity per weekend— sometimes two! On April 17 at 7pm, a Lazer Tag event will take over the ELC mall. No RSVP is required; all you need is yourself, and possibly a friend or two to tag. The very next day, Saturday, April 18, a bus will chauffeur students to Hershey Park for a day of stress-free amusement. This one does require a reservation, which students must pay for at the box office while tickets last.
The following weekend, Canoe Battleship will flood the Kinney Natatorium for the annual team tradition on April 25 at 7pm. Students will battle each other on boats for the title of Canoe Battleship Champ. Sign ups will be coming out shortly— check Brent Papson’s weekly emails, and be sure to start forming your teams now! That same day, a Softball and Baseball tailgate will be held by the baseball and softball fields. Free food will be provided as assembled students, faculty and staff cheer on the Bison knocking it out of the park on their respective fields.
Finally, CORE is hosting Bison Sound on May 2, beginning at 4pm on the Sojka Pavillion lawn, to give the semester a proper Bucknell sendoff. Student bands will be performing, and the much-anticipated array of food trucks will be present and serving, with offerings including barbecue, Indian food, coffee, hot Italian sandwiches, and orangeade.
For graduating seniors, several additional events can be added to the roster. Senior Sunset, an annual tradition where the class of the year gathers to watch the sun go down on their Bucknell experience over embossed glasses of champagne, will be May 4. Senior Festival will be May 14; seniors can look forward to an event similar to Bison Sound, with multiple food trucks and giveaways for graduating seniors only. Baccalaureate will be on May 16. Students and their families are welcomed to a multi-faith, multicultural celebration in advance of graduation itself the following day. The night of May 16, following Baccalaureate, will be illuminated by the annual candle lighting ceremony.
And of course, every Friday is ’Ray Day, from 11:30-1:00pm. Wear blue and orange to win prizes at the prize wheel outside the ELC, and keep an eye out for the therapy dogs bringing some paw-sitive energy around campus. With the semester coming to a very busy close, we at the Bucknellian encourage everyone to keep an eye on the bright side, and try penciling in one of these events to get some charge back in the ol’ social battery.
