One night I was bored in bed,
And I stalked her on the internet,
It’s feminine intuition
The most alive I’ve ever been
Rodrigo dropped a new single and I might drop dead!
Yes, Olivia Rodrigo has given us a little taste of her new album “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.” “drop dead,” the lead single from her third studio album set to release on June 12, 2026, was shared across streaming platforms, featuring not one, but two music videos.
The first visual, shot in a 90’s-esque VHS tape style, features the pop singer frolicking around the Palace of Versailles in Paris, high on love. Almost a complete change from her previous albums, which were certified, for me, as teenage heartbreak anthems, this song previews a new era of love sweeping you off your feet. The video opens with a dream-like haze of purple and mix, with Olivia singing in a discotheque. Quickly, there is a transition to the singer clad in an outfit reminiscent of Marie Antoinette and sporting a set of vintage headphones. Throughout the video, the camera follows her antics, zooming in on the beauty of the palace. I’m sure I even saw a “Ferris Bueller” reference, with the star gliding around on the wooden floors in socks as she belts the lyrics to the romantic song. From intricate shots of the palace’s royal bedding to close-ups of the macarons decorating the walls and even wide shots of the glamorous grandeur garden, viewers are thrust into the visual feeling of falling in love.
The second visual, released Monday, April 20, is available only on Spotify (sorry, not sorry to the unfortunate Apple Music users). This video opens with an ode to her London lover, on a “eurostar to France,” with the singer giddily sipping on a pint of good old Guinness as she roams the streets of London before venturing off to France. Similar to the first video, shot on what looks like a camcorder, it resembles a video diary with the star boarding the Eurostar, guitar in hand. Switching from shots of Parisian landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, to the Louvre pyramid, the Notre Dame and obviously, a go-round of the famous Arc de Triomphe, Olivia poses a great question: what better way to fall in love, than in the city of love?
Warm with whimsy, this single does a good job of welcoming fans into her new era. From these visuals, however, I do wonder why you would seem pretty sad for a girl so in love?
