Community Service Fair fosters student engagement

The Office of Civic Engagement sponsored the 2014 Spring Community Service Fair on Jan. 22. University students and Lewisburg area service agencies came together in Larison Dining Hall to promote student involvement in the local community.

The fair, sponsored by Bucknell Student Government (BSG) and Campus Activities and Programs (CAP), represented 35 local nonprofit groups and student service organizations on campus. Organizations such as Mostly Mutts, a local canine shelter and adoption program, and the Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority, a provider of community recreation services in the greater Lewisburg area, were present to answer questions and provide information.

Lynn Pierson, assistant director for Community Service, coordinated the event.

“Bucknellians have the ability to make a huge difference in our area and the fair is a great way to connect our students with some of our local agencies. Our agencies are able to provide some really meaningful off-campus experiential education opportunities that they might not otherwise have by staying in the ‘Bucknell bubble’,” Pierson said.
